Apologies

Apologies for the lack of updates. We've been flat out with family and farm commitments. Things are green and growing, rocking along beautifuly.

Babies - Ghillie, Kezzy and Zoom are in and going through all kinds of stuff (including gelding for Zoom next week - but don't tell him that!)

We've tarps and tyres, poles, flags, bridges, umbrellas, bunting, balloons, witches hats, signs, gates, white boards, pvc pipes, plastic bags ... playing with, stepping on, stepping over, going through, being draped in, eating out of ... if it's scary we're playing with it!

Verona has spent some quality time with Mac Adie, and with luck there will be the sound of little hooves springtime next year. Flora is having one try for a foal before hanging up her motherhood apron, and joining Gypsy in the retirement group. We've concentrated on a fairly intense herb and nutritional package to make sure that she's in the best physical and reproductive health as possible. Fingers crossed. She carries some incredibly rare and valuable bloodlines.

No photos at the moment. I've somehow acquired a rather nasty scratch on my good lense, and am saving madly to buy a new one. I have a phone camera thingy, but the photos are not lovely, so i've decided not to upload any at this stage.

Winter coats have finally gone, and lovely shiny coats are glowing everywhere (except Zoom, who's holding on to some, he's quite the looker now ... solid, well put together steel grey. Great legs, good amount of bone without being overly heavy. Nice amount of mane / tail / feather. A bith thicker and with more body than Kezzy / Harry who have both got Millie's straight locks. I think Zoom will tend more to Adie's thicky ropey mane and heavier leg feather)

Anyway, photo updates will resume as soon as i get a new lens ...

Spring has sprung

Spring has sprung and despite the warm days, the cold nights seem to be helping fluffy coats stay mostly put. Fresh spring grass and sunshine has everyone feeling fine, and afternoons bring bouts of spirited playing. This afternoon was no different, with a bit of coltish play fighting between Ghillie and Zoom (Crofter) turning into a full on around the paddock bash, with Zoom & Verona doing what Zoom does best. Who ever said Highland's were plodders??

Lots of new photos scattered throughout; pics of Ghillie & Crofter on the For Sale page.

Pics of Verona, Tammy and Flora on the mares pages.

Grooming, grooming. Did i mention grooming?

Highlands are beautiful. Lovely colours, and all that mane and tail. And then it's spring, the winter hair is coming away, big hairy spots in the grass after naps, on tree trunks after rubs. Little bits of hair gets stuck in the mane, a little tangle happens, it pulls a bit and they rub it a bit and in no time you have one of these:

Oh dear! Not looking forward to tackling this one tomorrow ... that's one beauty of a knot, Cloud! You can guarantee when i have a dig through my tubs for the 'Show Off' spray, there'll be none there. And then i'll have to do an order, and it won't come for a week ...(and i'll get sick of waiting and go get some Pantene. It works, but i don't like it. Wouldn't use it on myself!)

Anyway ... had a meeting with the Murray CMA about getting a grant to help deal with a heap of erosion that happened during the floods in Oct 2010. Great meeting, sounds positive, fingers crossed. Cloud was interested in the strangers car getting about and put on a great show of floating trots, flat our gallops, slide stops and spins accompanied by some great snorts! Had my camera, so finally got some pictures of him (was actually taking pictures of herons this morning - not very successfully. The magpie following me around was a better subject) So here's some pictures of my favourite boy, McLeod. And a couple of the magpie :)

Winter

Gee, it's been cold!!

I seem to be constantly wearing three or four layers of clothes, standing in front of the fire, drinking tea just trying to get warm.

Ponies don't mind. They've got to be the hairiest i've seen them in years, Mr. Zoom - DG Crofter - particularly so. Or maybe that it's just that i'm not used to seeing a 5mth old foal with a two inch coat and a beard a full grown Highland would be proud of!

They're usually startling to look a bit moth-eaten as their foal fluff falls out, and their first coat grows in. I have no doubt how this guyis going to look when this winter coat starts going (and giving him a good rub today i came away with a handful of looose hair - we're past the equinox and heading toward spring already)

Mares, youngstock and oldies are all sharing a paddock at the moment so they can parttake of a couple of big rolls of hay a week - they're not hungry, but the cold, wet and windy weather means they need full tummies and a sheltered paddock to stay warm. No rugging here!

No foals for us in the spring. Not bringing anymore ponies into the world when the demand is obviously not there. Ghillie and Crofter are both still for sale. Romi will also be for sale in the spring.

Here's some pics of the big mob today.

DG Crofter ... who is generally refered to as Manny, or more recently, Zoom...has now been added to the For Sale page.

He's going to be a big, solid boy who moves well and very deft on his feet. Turns and stops that a quarterhorse would be proud of.

A new album of photos in the photo gallery. Includes pics of the partbreds, last years foals and some garden-y stuff.

More coming. The weather has been yucky and the light too low to get decent photos.

DG Romani, DG Tamaris & CC Campari - all partbreds

Romi & Tam are half sisters - same dam (Gypsy)

Tammy & Cam are by the same sire - Barrymoor Dorian
